While it is a renewed media/analyst narrative rather than a new filing or earnings release, it highlights specific balance-sheet and cash-collection dynamics that can affect near-term investor sentiment and trading around PLTR.
Burry’s Palantir Warning Is Back. Accenture Shows What Investors Should Check Habib Ur Rehman Mon, September 7, 2026 at 10:43 PM GMT+2 3 min read PLTR ACN Michael Burry's accounting critique of Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: PLTR ) resurfaced in September 5 coverage, reviving the question of whether its economics resemble a software company or a consultant.
His original post dates to February 19. Accenture plc (NYSE: ACN ) offers a useful comparison because it earns money helping companies deploy technology, including Palantir's. A billing balance cannot settle the argument Palantir's June-quarter filing shows receivables of $1.
49 billion, up from $1. 04 billion at December's end. One customer accounted for 27% of that balance.
Collections therefore deserve scrutiny: revenue booked today has less immediate funding value when payment arrives later. Yet first-half operating cash flow reached $2. 1 billion, and the second-quarter GAAP operating margin was 47%.
Those figures weaken a simple claim that Palantir already has ordinary consulting economics. Investors need to separate payment timing from the cost of delivering another dollar of revenue. Image by drobotdean on Freepik Accenture's June 18 results discussion illustrates the distinction.
Its fiscal third-quarter operating margin was 17%, while management expected bookings from emerging AI and data partners, including Palantir, to more than double over fiscal 2025. Implementation work can benefit Accenture as software adoption expands; the companies can share customers' spending without sharing identical margins. Accenture plc (NYSE:ACN) still faces a demand constraint: quarterly bookings fell 2% in dollars, and consulting revenue grew just 1% in local currency.
AI projects must become additional profitable work quickly enough to offset slower discretionary spending. Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:PLTR), meanwhile, must sustain software margins while collecting its expanding receivables.
Ownership provides a separate perspective Insider Monkey's database recorded 86 Palantir holders in Q2 2026 versus 96 in Q1, a decline of ten. Arrowstreet nearly doubled its shareholding, increasing it approximately 96%. Accenture's count rose five to 69 from 64, while Pzena increased its shares approximately 114%.
These historical positions precede September's renewed debate. In its Q2 commentary, Pzena argued that Accenture's consulting relationships position it to capture deferred AI transformation work. Its case depends on those projects returning, a useful distinction from assuming every efficiency gain automatically produces more services revenue.
The August 14 settlement snapshot showed 68,278,633 Palantir shares sold short, representing 3. 14% of float and 1. 1 days to cover.
That also predates the September discussion and supplies no explanation for individual traders' motives. Story Continues Palantir's cash generation makes the consultant label too blunt, although concentrated receivables warrant attention. Accenture has a credible route to monetizing adoption, but weak bookings temper that opportunity.
Future collection trends and profitable implementation growth offer more useful tests for these businesses than the label alone.
